Your Opportunity:The Stollery Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of sick and critically ill neonates on both level II and level III. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model, and is the only NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center in Canada. The Program has a dedicated Resuscitation and Stabilization Team (RST) who respond to the High-Risk case-room at the Lois Hole Hospital. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will perform a variety of nursing duties and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families to achieve positive patient outcomes and improvements in quality care. Nursing care will be administered safely and effectively according to NICU and hospital guidelines.
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and wellbeing. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).Additional Required Qualifications: Basic computer literacy is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a strong Family Centered Care philosophy are required.
Note this position may be eligible for an educational opportunity: 2 week classes beginning March 29th, 2021. The incumbent will be trained to have a thorough understanding of the care of the level 2 and level 3 neonatal patients. Successful pass of a Math Calculation Competency Assessment of 90% is required to be considered for hire.Preferred Qualifications: A BScN is preferred.
Previous NICU experience is an asset.
Recent acute care experience, post-partum/mother baby care, or pediatrics experience is preferred.
