Safety and Compliance Team Leader
Please note that all eligible applicants must possess or be able to obtain in a timely fashion an Ontario Security License- which is a requirement under PSISA 2005.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supports the enforcement and application of SCM policy and procedures by regularly inspecting the workplace and conducting walkabouts to observe the application of safe work practices.
Schedules the required full time, part time and contract SC personnel to support operational requirements on a weekly basis. Supervises SC team members (including Gatehouse), monitoring timekeeping and attendance by shift.
Investigates and documents all incidents of loss including theft, property damage, security breaches, and EHS accidents. Audits badge usage and control procedures. Prepares investigation reports and recommends appropriate corrective measures, administrative controls, disciplinary actions, and/or program improvements as required.
Provides training support to operations through the identification, development, and delivery/sourcing of SC and EHS training and education as required.
Provides operational departments with advice in the application of SC procedures, EHS legislation, and safe work practices and procedures.
Supervises the emergency response procedures as required and maintains records of emergency equipment testing.
Monitor all building security systems and equipment including the radio system, CCTV system, fire protection system.
Participates in the selection of SC team members, trains SC personnel in the proper execution of SC procedures, administers performance management including the performance review process, provides coaching and development in all functional areas.
Participates in the development of SC procedures and practices.
Monitors and trends injury accidents and reports to provide analytical measurement to ensure complete investigation, root cause and corrective actions are implemented.
Tracks and complies EHS data and prepares weekly managers report and any other H&S related materials or information.
Undertake any duties, assignments or projects as directed and related to the SC realm.
Post-secondary education with a focus in Health & Safety and/or Law & Security.
Experience as a SC supervisor within a distribution/warehousing environment preferred.
General knowledge of investigation, interviewing and evidence collection, obtaining statements, report writing, document tracking and file case management.
General knowledge of Health and Safety including Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Criminal Code of Canada, PSISA 2005 Legislation, Provincial Fire code, Provincial Building code, Occupational Hygiene, Measurement and Analysis, Hazard Recognition, and Assessment and Control techniques, and warehouse operations.
Communication skills including discussing issues with others for the purposes of clarification or explanation; written (audits, memos, documents, letters, reports, etc.); verbal (internal and external with vendors, suppliers, safety and government agencies); oral presentations (i.e. loss meetings, internal conferences, in-class instruction).
Project support: understanding and applying principles of project control; ability to manage projects within one or more systems across multi levels.
Problem solving skills including analysis of information, investigative skills and abilities under or at times of strict or dire circumstances.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft office skills.
Strong time management skills and abilities.
Possessing a Private Investigator License would be an asset.
There is a frequent need to exert mental effort including prioritizing multiple demands and projects.
Works within deadlines that are competing and unpredictable and must be able to handle frequent interruptions.
There is a need to stay current with evolving OHS law, criminal law, and PSISA 2005 law.
Works in a plant under conditions of moderate risk of injury - regularly exposed to noise and equipment.
Irregular hours depending on issues and the needs of the business.
